Learn 3D: CLO3D for Pattern Makers
Learn to draft, adapt, and refine digital patterns using CLO3D’s precision 2D tools.
What will I learn?
Traditional pattern makers are increasingly expected to work faster, adapt to 3D, and collaborate digitally, often with little support. This course helps you make that shift with step-by-step guidance on CLO3D’s 2D drafting, editing, and grading tools. You’ll learn to create accurate digital patterns, refine fit and balance, apply seam logic, and export files ready for sampling or production. Designed for pattern makers new to 3D, this course builds your confidence using CLO3D’s 2D environment to speed up prototyping and improve accuracy. You’ll start with the basics and progress to production-ready workflows. Support is available throughout via our dedicated forum. A basic knowledge of pattern cutting is helpful but not essential. You’ll need a trial or full version of CLO3D to take part. ✨Building the Foundation✨ ➜ Introduction to the CLO3D interface for pattern work ➜ Creating patterns from scratch using 2D tools ➜ Working with symmetry, guidelines, and internal lines ✨Pattern Modification and Block Adaptation✨ The fun part! Visualise your 3D garments with sewing & pattern editing tools. ➜ Dart rotation, volume, and silhouette changes ➜ Slash and spread, styleline shaping, pleats, and gathers ➜ Flattening from 3D and tracing new pattern components ✨Construction Accuracy✨ ➜ Adding seam allowances, grainlines, and notches ➜ Applying topstitch, binding, and finishing logic ➜ Placing hardware and preparing patterns for construction ✨Evaluation & Production Prep✨ ➜ Reviewing 2D patterns and 3D fit balance ➜ Applying grading rules and reviewing multi-size garments ➜ Exporting DXF and PDF layouts with size ranges for production By the end of the course, you’ll be confident drafting and refining digital patterns directly in CLO3D, including applying grading. You’ll be able to troubleshoot fit, prepare clean, production-ready files, and move efficiently from block development to digital handoff.
